Staley Farms Golf Club Summer Wedding Reception
Holy cow. Are you ready? Are you sure that you’re ready?! You might want to sit down for this. We’ve been a little absent lately (hello October!), but we are back. And we are SO, SO, SO excited for all of the pretty and romance to come your way from all of our summer weddings!! And, we couldn’t be more excited to kick it off with Sabrina and Bubba’s beautiful wedding day. We’ve shared a lot of special moments and crazy-fun laughs with these two over the last year leading up to their wedding day, and we are so excited to share more of their story with you. And, we’re even more excited that they’re sharing some of their wedding planning advice with you! So hang on, friends, here we go…!
Staley Farms Golf Club Summer Wedding Reception
Getting Ready | Courtyard Marriot at Briarcliff
Sabrina and Bubba’s wedding day kicked off bright and early for us with team breakfast, per usual. The day before their wedding, we actually received a cryptic voicemail from Bubba asking us to call him back specifically, and to not mention the phone call to Sabrina. What?! We of course called him right back. As it turns out, he and Sabrina’s bridesmaids had gotten all of their wedding party and families to write notes and cards and letters to his beautiful bride to read on her wedding day. And, he was just curious if we could maybe start a little early? Because he knew she would want photos of her opening them. Of course! When we arrived a little earlier than expected Sabrina was surprised, but, we’re so glad we started early. And then? We got to spend a little bit more time with Bubba and his groomsmen too.
Best Advice for a bride? “Look at your groom the entire time you walk down the aisle! I got distracted and took my eyes off him for a few seconds and wish I would have looked at him the whole time. Journal your journey to Mrs.”
Best advice for a groom? “Take it all in. Enjoy every minute from rehearsal, to dinner, to waking up early on the wedding day; spend the entire time enjoying every second. Then at the end of the wedding and every night of the week after spend 10 minutes reflecting on the day. It goes too quick.”
Wedding Ceremony | Gashland Presbyterian Church
Sabrina and Bubba decided not to do a first look before their wedding ceremony. And can we tell you how much fun it was in the moments leading up to their walk down the aisle? Bubba was full of anticipation, and Sabrina was just so excited to see her groom. As the church started to fill with their closest friends and family the excitement and anticipation just kept rising. Soon, it was time for Bubba to walk his mom down the aisle. And then the moment everyone was waiting for: his bride walked down to meet him. If you read Sabrina and Bubba’s blog post, you know just how much this man loves his (now) wife. And he was overcome with emotion as she headed down the aisle.
Can we be completely honest with you? Sabrina and Bubba’s pastor said something during their ceremony that has stuck with us ever since. “You’re saying yes to this person, and to all of their issues and faults. And they, in turn, have chosen you, and all of your issues and faults.” Why has this stuck with us, you ask? Because it couldn’t be a better reminder that we’re all human, and that no one, in any relationship is perfect. But that all we can do is love that person whose issues and faults we’ve chosen, and whose issues and faults we’ve chosen.
What were your favorite moments from your wedding day?
Sabrina: “Walking down the aisle together after being pronounced husband and wife!”
Bubba: “Seeing my bride for the first time.”
Bridal Party Photo Locations | The Colonnade, Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts
After their wedding ceremony, Sabrina and Bubba hopped on a party bus with their wedding party and family and traveled around Kansas City to take pictures. While talking with Sabrina and Bubba before their wedding about their photos, Sabrina mentioned that she wanted something really elegant and classic. We knew the historic Colonnade in northeast Kansas City was the perfect spot for these two. And, as we found out later, Sabrina’s mom grew up in the same neighborhood. In fact, her mom and Dad were married at a local church! What a small world!
After spending some time at The Colonnade with Sabrina and Bubba, we headed to The Kauffman Center to make their wedding party portraits. Their wedding party was SO much fun! We’re big believers that good people attract good people, and Sabrina and Bubba’s wedding party are definitely good people.
Any words of wisdom for those still planning? “Ask the officiant if there is any way to incorporate a moment in the ceremony when the bride and groom can turn towards the crowd and see all those that are there supporting the two. Our pastor had us turn around and gave us a few moments to look at the crowd; it was an amazing moment that allowed us to see all our loved ones.”
Wedding Reception | Staley Farms Golf Club
After finishing up downtown, we headed up north to Sabrina and Bubba’s reception. The clubhouse at Staley Farms Golf Course was a perfect match for Sabrina and Bubba’s wedding day. With beautiful, lush florals all over and the sun shining through the west windows, their reception was just gorgeous. And so packed! These two were surrounded by all of their family and friends celebrating their marriage. Their day wouldn’t have been complete without group photos of Bubba and all of the guys that he’s played baseball with over the years, or with Sabrina and her Chiefs Cheerleader friends. Or, of course, a few sunset portraits. 🙂
What’s next for you two? “Honeymooning in Jamaica! Then we will begin our journey as husband and wife by enjoying the remaining of our summer vacation completing house hold to-dos and a never ending game of fetch with Remi!”
Sabrina and Bubba – CONGRATULATIONS!!! Thank you so much from the very bottom of our hearts for letting us create your wedding images! We are so happy for you, and cannot wait to see where life takes you next!
