Pennway Place Winter Wedding
Boy oh boy, do we have a good one for you today, friends! Keri and Sam had their winter wedding at Pennway Place back in February. Well, technically it was still February, since they got married on Leap Day! Which was just perfect for these two lovebirds.

Friends, we’ve had the pleasure of knowing Keri for several years now, and have actually photographed two of her three sisters’ weddings. So when Keri and Sam asked us to be their photographers? We were so excited! Especially since we knew so many of their VIPs already. And those that we didn’t know? Instantly felt like old friends and family. Which is pretty awesome.
Keri and Sam might have had the most beautiful, perfect, 70* winter wedding day ever.
The day dawned bright and sunny. While Sam and his VIPs headed to brunch at Boulevard Tavern, Keri hung out with her sisters and BFFs at the Marriott downtown getting ready. Keri’s favorite club music was playing in the background, champagne and White Claws were flowing a-plenty, and the air was oh-so-thick with hairspray. It was so incredibly awesome that Keri surrounded herself with so many of her favorite people on wedding morning. Especially since she doesn’t like being the center of attention. And did we mention that Sam surprised Keri on their wedding morning by sending a gift over for her – diamond earrings to match her ring.
Understated, classic, always modern earrings – just like Keri.
Keri and Sam wanted their winter wedding day to be full of the city, and city life, anything and everything modern and THEM. This meant that after Keri had a super-emotional first look with her dad? They went to the bar, watched the KU game for a little bit, and had a beer together. After a big hug from her dad, then, and only then, did Keri cross the street to Barney Allis Plaza to meet Sam for their first look. We’re pretty sure Sam would never admit it, but he might have been just a little bit nervous, and, of course, super excited to see his bride. 😉
After sharing their super sweet first look, Keri and Sam hopped on a bus with their wedding party and headed to the Plaza for pictures.
Taking wedding pictures on The Plaza was a must for Keri and Sam, especially since that’s where they met. These two were neighbors in the same apartment building when Keri knocked on Sam’s door one night, frantically searching for her missing cat. Sam hadn’t seen the cat, but his life was changed forever when he met the girl of his dreams that night. And don’t worry, Keri did wind up finding her cat!
When we finished photos on The Plaza, we all took a detour to Westport. Specifically, the Alehouse, which has a HUGE Chiefs mural painted on the side. Keri and Sam are the biggest Chiefs fans, and since the Chiefs had just won the Superbowl? Of course, we had to stop! Add in a little bit of the tomahawk chop, and lots of cheering on from the bar’s rooftop attendees, and this was the perfect addition to Keri and Sam’s wedding day!
After a quick stop at Liberty Memorial for some “formal” wedding party photos…. Okay, a few nice ones for the mommas, and then lots of photos with laughing groomsmen and windblown bridesmaids, we met Keri and Sam’s families at Pennway Place for family photos. And, we would be absolute liars if we didn’t agree that Keri’s nephews stole the whole entire photo session.
And then, friends. It was wedding ceremony time.
Keep in mind, this was literally a week and a half before Kansas City was shut down. Pennway Place was full of Keri and Sam’s friends and family from near and far, anxiously waiting for her to walk down the aisle. But first? Sam walked his momma down the aisle. The nephews somehow, miraculously made their way down the aisle. And then it was Keri’s turn.
Seconds before her music started, her Dad teased her about it not being too late to run. Keri reassured him that she was happy, and that this was exactly what she wanted. And then they went. One of Keri and Sam’s best friends delivered one of the most personal, beautiful, funny, and meaningful wedding ceremonies we’ve ever witnessed. Keri and Sam exchanged rings, and vows. And the whole time, all of their parents tried to keep their eyes dry.
Finally, finally, finally, it was time for the party.
The part of the whole entire day that Keri and Sam were looking forward to the most. You know, besides getting married. 🙂 And friends, what a party it was. Loud bass filled club music playing in the background, cocktails being poured over and over again, and all of the dancing, laughing, and celebrating you could ever ask for. Keri and Sam had the best night of their lives surrounded by all of their friends and family. They cut the only cake Keri can stomach, a Milk Bar cake, danced some more, and finally ended the night with what we’re pretty sure was an epic after party at Power and Light. Keri and Sam’s Pennway Place Winter Wedding? Literally, oh-so-perfect for them.
