Megan & Chris's Reception at The Urban Event
Megan, a former wedding planner from St. Louis, and Chris, an airline pilot, knew exactly how they wanted to celebrate their marriage when they planned their fall wedding in Kansas City: with a classic, black-tie wedding at St. Peter’s Church, and an urban reception at The Urban Event in Kansas City’s Crossroad’s District.
We’ve seen a lot of veils this year, and Megan’s was definitely one to be remembered with the beautiful lace trim. She was actually only one of two of our brides from 2015 to walk down the aisle with her veil over her face. Her advice for other brides: practice moving it from front to back with your dad before the ceremony! Megan and Chris decorated the aisles of St. Peter’s with fall wreaths that matched their wedding colors: rich oranges, burgundies and golds. Chris and his groomsmen wore classic black tuxes with bow-ties, while Megan’s bridesmaids all chose a different floor-length black gown.
These two knew that while they wanted a very classic and traditional ceremony, that they wanted to ramp up the energy and personality at their reception. They chose to have their reception on the top floor of The Urban Event in the Historic Firestone Building in the Crossroads District, which means that they also had access to the roof! This was a very strategic choice on their part, because it meant that we had great views for their wedding party photos without having to travel all over the city. Megan thought of every single last detail when it came to décor for their space, from the pumpkins that had table numbers carved into them to the vintage dripping wax candles, to the tiny airplanes that topped the cheesecake she and Chris cut into, every detail was in place.
Megan and Chris knew that they wanted a few photos of the Kansas City skyline at sunset, but none of us knew what Mother Nature had in store for us when we ventured up to the roof for their photos. Every time we turned around for a solid 30 minutes the sky seemed to light up with a different color or hue. We were all amazed. This is by far one of the prettiest sunsets we have ever seen in Kansas City, and we’re so glad that we were on a roof with these two to be able to document it!
Instead of using a DJ at their reception, Megan and Chris chose to bring in one of their favorite bands from St. Louis, the Bob Kuban Band. They danced all night long with their guests, including grandma! We mentioned Megan was very detail oriented, right? She and Chris even had dessert brought out for their guests (warm apple crumble an ice cream!) after dinner and dancing. Congratulations you two – we’re so happy for you! Thank you again for letting us be part of your special day!
