Vibrant Winter Engagement Session

You know, we used to think that winter wasn’t a great time to do anything but snuggle in with the corgis and catch up on Netflix. No leaves on the trees and dead, brown grass? Nope. Definitely not going to take a couple anywhere near that to make pictures. If we did photography anything engagement or wedding related in the winter it for sure had to be downtown and architecture focused, or at Union Station.

Dang. What seasonal snobs we are. Or used to be.

But the longer that we do this? The more we realize that there’s beauty everywhere and in everything. That may sound cliché, but we were once-upon-a-time die-hard, no winter photo shoot fanatics. Turns out, all you have to do is pay a little bit closer attention, and look a little bit harder. Or, not pay as much attention to what your background is and just focus on a crazy-in-love, super-cute, laughter-filled couple.

That works too. 🙂

So, when Emily and Alex told us that they needed to get engagement photos done ASAP so they could get save the dates out and that they were okay with cold weather? And that they LOVE the outdoors and wanted something outdoorsy instead of in the city? Instead of being our usual winter-cynical selves, we said, “Sure. We can make that happen.”

Would it be a challenge for us? Maybe. But was it what our couple ultimately wanted? Yep. And for that reason, we found ourselves at the park with Emily and Alex for their winter engagement session.

I mean, it just so happened to be 50* on the day of their session with not a cloud in sight. That definitely helped our “dead winter” backgrounds. But the warmth and love that Alex and Emily brought with them? That’s what really make these photos just absolutely magic. I mean, absolutely MAGIC. These two lovebirds didn’t complain once about the melting, sloppy, slushy, muddy ground that we were all traipsing through. (You guys. It was legit gross.) Or that there was a little bit of a chilly breeze in the air.

Nope. Not once.

Instead, they willingly, and excitedly hiked through the park with us. Climbing through the tall grass, getting stuck in the mud, dodging disc golfers, and laughing the entire time.

And the fact that we ended their engagement session on the swings at the park with them in their matching face socks? You guys. It literally just doesn’t get any better than that. Those are literally some of our very, very favorite photos from their whole session.

So thank you, Emily and Alex. For changing our minds about winter outdoorsy engagement sessions. For being such absolutely amazing humans, and for being down with playing on the swings in your matching socks. Your engagement session was truly one hell of a way for us to kick off our 12^th season photographing weddings and engagements in KC, and we absolutely wouldn’t change a single thing about it. 🙂
