Vibrant Summer Wedding at The Bauer
What do you get when you combine a love of Kansas City, one of downtown KC’s most charming wedding venues, a crazy-super-artistic bride, and a groom who couldn’t be happier to be getting married?
Well, friends. That’s easy. You get Amanda and Jared’s Vibrant Summer Wedding at The Bauer.

If you’re thinking that you’ve seen a million weddings at The Bauer, and that they all look alike, fear not, friends. Because Amanda and Jared’s summer wedding? You guys. SO BEAUTIFUL. These two incorporated so many odes to Kansas City in their big day. From the welcome sign Amanda herself created with the KC skyline painted on it, to their menus, and Jared’s custom wooden tie, there were so many small KC touches all over the place.
But, one of our favorite things about their wedding day?
In addition to all of the KC touches? Was all the gorgeous COLOR they used everywhere. Amanda’s gorgeous bouquet just absolutely popped with beautiful summer blooms. And Jared opted for a subtle blue suit instead of black, adding another gorgeous color to their wedding day.
Amanda and Jared started their days out separately, Amanda getting ready in the GORGEOUS bridal suite at The Bauer with her mom and sisters, while Jared chose to get a fresh shave at Dan’s Barber Shop and Shave Parlor, the cute little barber shop attached to the back patio at Mildred’s Coffee shop. As she was getting her makeup done, Amanda subtly asked her momma about her memories from her own wedding years ago. Which in turn led to each of the ladies telling so many super special family stories as they finished getting ready. Meanwhile, across the hall in the groom’s suite, Jared and his guys were just hanging out and watching tv.
When it came time for Amanda to put her gorgeous wedding gown on? Friends. The entire bridal room got quiet, and you could just feel the anticipation in the room raise up a notch.
Amanda and Jared knew they wanted to do a first look on their wedding day, and we tasked these sweet lovebirds to decide how they wanted to do their first look. As it turns out, Jared had the best idea, as well as the sweetest. You see, the whole time he and Amanda had been talking about doing a first look, he always envisioned it taking place in the bridal suite. He wanted to open the door to walk into Amanda, in her bridal gown in the bridal suite, and share a private moment with her that way.
I couldn’t tell you if the incoming storm clouds added to their moment, but these two lovebirds shared quite possibly one of the sweetest, most special first looks we’ve seen in a while.
As Amanda and Jared shared the best hug ever and chatted about their morning, Kyle was carefully watching the incoming storm roll in. Knowing how important photos in the Crossroads District were to them, we rushed out into the street to capture as much as we could before the rain set in. Not to toot our own horns, but we’re always amazed at the amount of work that we can do in 15 minute when we’re under the gun. Amanda and Jared beat us back to The Bauer just as Kyle felt the first few raindrops on his bald head. 😆
Instead of getting to do wedding party pictures with Amanda and Jared in the streets surrounding The Bauer, we had to shift just a little bit because of the rain, and took advantage of the super unique, super artsy second floor of The Bauer Building. But don’t let the switch in location fool you; Amanda, Jared, and their wedding party had so much fun, laughing together during their photo time.
And when it came time for formal family pictures with Amanda and Jared?
Amanda and Jared chose to do their family photos at The Bauer, right in front of the beautiful floating floral and hanging candle “arbor” they were going to say their vows in front of. These two were completely surrounded by all of their loving family and friends. Family and friends that traveled in from all over the country just to be with them. Loved ones and friends that hadn’t seen each other in over a year. There were so many hugs, so many high-fives, so many well wishes, and so much love. Friends, getting to see so many loved ones reunite after such a hard year last year was such a privilege.
No sooner did family photos finish, then Amanda and Jared’s wedding guests started to arrive. Amanda tucked herself back into the bridal suite, while Jared headed to the groom’s suite. As guests were being seated and music played, the wedding party lined up. Amanda, at the very back of the line with her dad (of course), kept their distance from the rest of the group. Chatting softly, practicing how Amanda’s dad was going to hold her hand as they walked down the aisle, and sharing a few last, sweet moments before ceremony time.
Then it was time to walk down the aisle.
Amanda walked down the aisle to join Jared in front of a room brimming full of their most beloved friends and family. Jared’s uncle performed the wedding ceremony, and they chose three of their closest family members to do readings during the ceremony. The special thing about the readings? Amanda and Jared didn’t pick them out. They let their readers pick a passage or reading that was special to them, and surprised Amanda and Jared with them during the ceremony.
And after Amanda and Jared exchanged rings? You better believe they excitedly bounced back up the aisle to celebrate their newlywed status.
After giving quick hugs to their immediate family and wedding party, we snuck away with Amanda and Jared to Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts for a few romantic photos with just the two of them. While these two laughed and danced, and made out like fiends in front of our cameras, their wedding guests, family, and friends were enjoying cocktail hour back at The Bauer. Not long after Amanda and Jared arrived back at The Bauer, their reception started.
With all of the toasts, dances, cake, friends, KC Bier, photo booth photos, and other reception shenanigans?
Amanda and Jared’s wedding reception flew by, and before we knew it, it was time for their sparkler exit. These two had the best time running up and down the alley beside The Bauer as their friends and family celebrated, cheering them on and waving their sparklers.
