Rainy September Wedding Sneak Peek

So. Rain on wedding days. Some people believe it’s good luck if it rains on a wedding day. And that the more rain you get the luckier you are. I also heard last week that rain on a wedding day also means that you won’t have any problems having kids.

Apparently, according to some old wives’ tales, if you “tie the knot” in the rain, the knot becomes wet and is harder to break, making your marriage stronger and harder to break apart. I mean, that’s something that I can totally get on board with.

Have you ever tried to untie a wet knot? It’s nearly impossible.

Well. Whatever the source, or however many myths and backstories there are for good luck or bad on wedding days, rain bound to happen. We never hope for rain on wedding days, if we’re being honest. And although I’m the one that starts watching and paying attention to the weather as soon as wedding day is added to the forecast, Kyle never does. In fact, he says he doesn’t trust it until at least the day before, if not closer to the morning of the wedding.

So when Barbie and Spencer got rain on their wedding day on Saturday? It was totally an okay thing. We came prepared with our clear umbrellas, rain coats, rain gear for the cameras, and we both brought extra shoes and pants. You know, just in case we decided to get a little adventurous. 🙂

What we didn’t know, friends, was how much rain we were going to get.

Or that Barbie and Spencer would be forced to move their ceremony inside because of the massive downpour happening outside. We also didn’t anticipate the pond by the reception tent overflowing just enough to create a river at the low point in the yard, completely separating the tent from the rest of the venue.

We lovingly dubbed it “Courtney River” and the crazy-awesome venue team at The Bowery built a bridge over it so guests could still go back up the hill to the restrooms.

We had no idea any of this would happen. But you know what? Through it all? Barbie and Spencer were absolute troopers. Like, for real. It didn’t upset Barbie in the least that her gown got a little wet and muddy. Or that we only got to catch a few photos with the gorgeous arbor at their original outside ceremony location. And when Spencer lovingly carried Barbie through Courtney River to get to enter their reception? It might have been one of the sweetest, most unexpected moments of the whole day.

Friends. Despite the torrential rains and storms, Barbie and Spencer had such a gorgeous wedding day. And we are SO EXCITED to share so many more favorite moments and images with you. But for now, you’ll just have to make due with their sneak peek. 🙂
