Jade & Kyle's KC Rooftop Wedding
We can’t even begin to tell you how excited we were for Jade and Kyle’s wedding at The Terrace on Grand this summer. Not only did we know it was going to be a spectacular day, but they’re two of our closest friends, and we were beyond honored and thrilled that they asked us to capture their wedding day. With their ceremony on the rooftop, and their reception just downstairs, The Terrace on Grand was perfect for these two and their love of anything and everything downtown KC.
Their wedding day decor and details were a unique mix of classic elegance with fun, bright details added in here and there. Jade’s gown was a beautiful, “puffy gown that is 3 times bigger” than she remembered it being when she tried it on, but she loved it and rocked it. Jade carried over some over some of her favorite, signature style pieces into her bridal look: bright, magenta lipstick, and sky-high heels, while Kyle opted for a custom, Mad-Men era suit from a local suit shop. Her bridesmaids all wore the same hot pink color, but stayed on-trend and all chose a different cut that they felt great in.
When it came to the great “first look” debate, Jade and Kyle’s choice was easy. They knew that they wanted to have all of their photos done before their ceremony, especially since their ceremony and reception were both taking place at The Terrace on Grand. We did their first look on the roof where their ceremony was going to be held. To be completely honest with you, this was probably one of our favorite moments from their entire day. Kyle’s reaction is priceless, and Jade LOVED seeing it all over again when we did their image review.
When their wedding day finally rolled around in late August, it wasn’t the prettiest of days, but they were more than okay with the drama the storm clouds added to their photo tour around Kansas City. These two had a clear vision of which locations they wanted to visit for wedding photos, and built in plenty of extra time on their wedding day so we could make all of the stops with them. While we hit up a few classic Kansas City locations like The Nelson and The Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, they also requested and arranged a trip to a local firehouse downtown since Kyle had just graduated from the Fire Academy. Since his Dad also used to be a fireman, Kyle’s parents met us at the firehouse for a few family photos as well.
I mean, really. they couldn’t have made it any easier for us. One of the firefighters watching us suggested adding in a coat, which we loved! When he walked out of the firehouse with a coat AND an axe, we were a little surprised! But Kyle definitely made it work, and this is an image that both he and Jade, and his parents are going to treasure forever!
After spending a few hours out and about in Kansas City, we headed back downtown to The Terrace on Grand for Jade and Kyle’s rooftop ceremony. A lot of our clients worry about the weather on their wedding day, which we completely understand and worry along with them! But, can you just take a look at these dramatic skies?! They’re killer, and they made such a neat backdrop for all of the bright twinkling lights of the Kansas City skyline that was the backdrop for their wedding. We really loved that as they were saying their vows the city came alive behind them with lights.
All in all it was a fantastic day, and we couldn’t be happier for these two and their wonderful families! Congratulations again Jade an Kyle!!
