Engagement Photography Misconceptions Pt. 1
Hey-hey, friends! Happy Wednesday!! Congratulations are in order – you’ve made it halfway through another week! And in 2020? That’s a HUGE DEAL and a reason to for-sure celebrate. Today we’re super excited to be introducing a new blog series that we’ve been working on for a while that will hopefully help you AND your boo get excited for your engagement session. Yep, today we’re starting down the path of discussing the top 10 common engagement photography misconceptions.

It’s an honest-to-god truth that there are very few people out there who LOVE having their photos taken. And, in our studio? It’s a fact that 98% of the couples that we work with have never even had photos taken together before. (Which is how we like it). Put those two together and the odds are that you and your honey might be super nervous about your engagement session. And that you’ve both likely got some preconceived ideas about what to expect during your session.
Well, friends, today we’re going to start debunking some of those engagement photography misconceptions.

And over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing more detailed information with you about the others, as well. And, because we are who we are and we do what we do, as we go through these we’ll be sharing some of our favorite images from Jordan and Dawsons’s super gorgeous engagement session at Loose Park. Without further ado, friends, here we go.

Engagement Photography Misconceptions Pt. 1
You only need 1 picture and it can be taken in 15 minutes.
Oh friends. This couldn’t be farther from the truth. Here’s the deal. You may only need 1 photo for your save the dates. But to get that 1 super-special photo that perfectly displays you as the couple that you are with all of your quirks and personality that is the perfect “intro” into what your guests can except from your wedding day? Well. To get that 1 photo you can’t just take 1 photo. Heck, you can’t even take only a handful of photos before you call it quits. Not if you really, truly want to be happy with the “1” photo. You’ve got to spend some genuine time working it out together, friends.

And here’s why. (These are actually Kyle’s words.) 🙂
During an average engagement session we’ll likely take around 3000 photos. We know that’s a TON but when we shoot, we’re looking for those moments that will continually make your heart happy every single time you see them. And that will remind you of your boo-thang every time you see them. We’re not going to lie, there are always a ton of “close” images (and many not so flattering images), but there’s a fleeting 1-2 percent of images that we’re looking specifically for that will make your heart sing every day.

And while yes, we are professional photographers and can make a GORGEOUS photo in a few minutes, it doesn’t mean that one specific photo will be exactly what you want for your “1 photo” for your save the date.
In all honesty, during an engagement session, it often takes the average couple close to 30-45 minutes to get comfortable enough in front of the camera to really relax and let their personalities come out. And it often takes your photographer around 20 minutes as well to figure out how to get their couple to really open up. Which means, that “1 photo” for your save the date? Likely won’t come until you see the photos from the middle of your session, about 45 minutes-an hour into things.

So, with all of that being said? Yes, you only need 1 photo for that save the date. But for it to be the exact right 1 photo? It’s going to take a little bit of time, grace, and openness to create. 🙂

Jordan and Dawson, thank you both so incredibly much for letting us create your engagement photos!! We had an absolute blast with you both during your session and are so stinking excited for your wedding next summer!!
