Barns at Hamilton Station Vineyard Fall Wedding
Okay, friends. We’re not even going to try to fib a little bit. Fall weddings are our JAM. And by JAM. We mean our very, very, very favorites. Don’t get us wrong. We love weddings all year round. BUT. There’s just something about a cool morning, warm daytime, crisp evening wedding that we just simply can’t get enough of.

So. When these two lovebirds (Carla and Stephen) not only asked us to photograph their fall wedding at a vineyard, at home in Virginia?
Friends. We didn’t even hesitate a little bit.
Like, not even a millisecond. You see, Carla and Stephen asked us to make their engagement photos. And TBH, since we knew these two were getting married in Virginia? We thought that after we delivered their engagement prints and art that would be it. So we were literally ecstatic when they asked us to photograph their wedding day. And if their engagement session was any indication, we knew these two lovebirds were going to throw one hell of a wedding.
So off to Virginia we went. We may have landed and taken off in a downpour, but in between? Carla and Stephen literally had the most beautiful fall wedding day. That whole description from the very beginning of this post? Yep. That’s 100% what they had. And we’re not going to lie. There’s something a little magical about going to a new wedding venue for the first time. As photographers you can go in with 100% fresh eyes and see everything for the first time, with no carry over of “the last wedding we did here.”
Can you say photo magic?!
Surrounded by her big sis, niece, momma, and besties from college, Carla spent her wedding morning hanging out in the super-sweet farmhouse at the vineyard. Everyone had matching flannel shirts and leggings, and of course Carla wore her favorite cow socks all morning (and to her wedding)! And Stephen and the guys? They spent the morning brunching and hanging out at a shooting range. I mean, come on, friends. What a great fall wedding morning!
After a morning and afternoon full of all the laughter, dance parties, gifting of socks and coffee anyone could ask for it was first look time. Carla and Stephen met in the middle of the vineyard for their first look. As Stephen walked towards Carla his face just absolutely lit up. And while it was so sweet and sentimental, you better believe these two lovebirds cracked up in laughter after a few minutes after seeing each other for the first time. Which, of course, made sure that all of their “formal” portraits were 100% fun and goofy and completely Carla and Stephen.
And when their wedding party joined us?
Boy oh boy. Over the years we’ve come to expect some things from wedding parties. But Carla and Stephen’s gang? Friends. They kept us on their toes the WHOLE TIME! I mean, Stephen’s groomsmen even hoisted him into the air and flipped him upside down! Let’s just say that Carla and the ladies were suuuuper surprised. Who are we kidding. We were too!
Once all the fun was had, we all made our way back up the hill to the barn to get ready for Carla and Stephen’s sunset wedding ceremony. As family and friends took their seats, Carla and Stephen shared a last few special moments before walking down the aisle. And their best officiate/best man/best friend, Bob? Of course he rocked their ceremony.
After a quick cocktail hour, family photos and meet and greets, these Carla and Stephen sat down for dinner with their VIPs in the cozy basement dining hall of the barn. Friends. It was so pretty and romantic. Completely and utterly oh-so-downright cozy with all of the candle light. And once dinner and toasts were done?
You better believe the party began.
And let’s just say that you haven’t seen a party until you’ve seen a boot-stomping, two-stepping, singing at the top of your lungs Virginia wedding reception. The barn was literally ROCKING all night long! It was such an absolute blast!
Of course you know that we stole these two lovebirds away for a few “nighttime” portraits. Which were made that much better when the original car from The Godfather pulled up as a surprise exit for Carla and Stephen! You KNOW we had to do a few more photos… because how could we not?
Carla and Stephen literally had the best Barns at Hamilton Station Vineyard fall wedding ever for them, sweet friends. And they put a cherry-on-top with their wedding exit…. A shotgun beer exit. It was literally perfect for them, and it was so much fun to see something so unique and special to them!
