Engagements are one of our favorite sessions to do. In fact, very rarely do any of our clients not do an engagement session. For a lot of our couples, their engagement session is the first time they’ve had their photo taken since their senior pictures. Or even together as a couple. One of the biggest concerns our couples have is that they’re not sure where to have their pictures taken.
We know that deciding where to take engagement pictures can be a big and stressful decision. That’s just part of the reason we never ask our couples to pick their own location. Instead of asking where they want to take pictures, we always ask our couples what kind of feeling they want their images to have. What their favorite style is, what their end-goals are for their images, and how they want to feel during their session. You might not think these are important to have your pictures made, but believe me, they are.
We never want to help our couples select locations that don’t truly feel like them, and that they won’t love 10 years from now. Nor do we want to take their images someplace that they’re not comfortable in.
Mel and Jeff’s classic river market engagement session is a great example of choosing picture locations by feeling. These two have never had their pictures taken together before, and had no idea where to go to take them. Mel did know that she wanted very classic, traditional images. We took her “feeling” and ran with it.
Kansas City’s River Market is such a neat part of the city, with great, classic architecture and beautiful streets. We’re big fans of Delaware Street, specifically, and knew that the classic colors and beautiful brick sidewalks would be the perfect background for their session. Mel and Jeff agreed, and wound up loving their final engagement images.
Congratulations, Mel and Jeff! Thank you so much for letting us create your engagement pictures!
