You guys. A few weeks ago we got asked to do something really, really fun. With some of the best people we know. And, of course, ALL the pretty things. If you follow us on Instagram (if you don’t by now you really should be!), you saw some behind the scenes images from it. And today, we are SO excited to share ALL of the real images from it!! What is it?! The Mission Theatre Wedding Showcase. If you were there, we know you’re glad you made time for it. If you didn’t get to go, man, you missed out. Not just on seeing this gorgeous venue, but also on meeting some fabulous vendors. And of course, tasting fabulous food, drinks, and cake.
But, before we get too distracted with the wedding cake, we have to fill you in on the rest of the shoot. Because it was SO MUCH FUN! We might be biased when we say this, but Kansas City really does have some of the best vendors in the business. And so many of them were at this styled shoot! The super sweet, amazing ladies from Events by Elle were the masterminds behind the whole day. And we absolutely LOVE the concept Taylor and Michelle came up with. Such a pretty mix of light, pretty pastels with pops of punchy and dramatic color. For real – just wait until you see the gorgeous arrangements Mille Flores put together.
PS – did we mention we got to work with a local jeweler and some crazy-unique family heirlooms and pieces?! AND, we got to photograph one of Veronica Couture’s newest veils. Man, she is just so talented! But, if we’re being completely honest, this amazing venue pulled everything together. If you’re still venue hunting and are searching for someplace that can seat a ton of people, plus has crazy-romantic, luxurious finishings, and a bridal suite like you’ve never seen, you need to go check it out. So, without further ado, here we go! We hope you love these images just as much as we do!

You guys. Shae and Adam got married last weekend in Lawrence. And it was so incredibly rainy and dreary, but still an amazing day because they got married. But – somehow – these two managed to have THE ULTIMATE rain plan. And we had absolutely nothing to do with it. They were able to get into Allen Fieldhouse. On the court. For their wedding day pictures. It was so crazy awesome. And I’m not even a huge basketball fan.
Anyway, we’re a little behind on their sneak peek, but couldn’t wait to post one from our time together on the court. And while, yes, being on the court was so crazy-cool, it wasn’t my favorite part from their wedding day. Watching these two walk onto the court in their gown and tux, and just spinning in a circle while they took it all in with their friends and family was the coolest thing ever. To be completely honest, I got goosebumps. Not only did they get to marry their best friend, but they also got to make their wedding images in their favorite place in the whole world. It’s not often that gets to happen.
Shae and Adam’s friends and family – feel free to pre-register to see their full wedding day gallery as soon as it’s released. (We promise, we’ll let you know!). We’re working on finishing up their beautiful day, and are so excited to share more! But for now, we hope you enjoy your sneak peek, Shae and Adam!

Happy almost Thanksgiving, friends! We have to admit – things have been a little bit crazier than normal around here. We promise to explain everything soon, but in the meantime, we are back to share a few past-due sneak peeks! With everything happening in our personal lives (we promise everything is okay!), we’ve gotten behind by about a week or two. And for that we are truly sorry. So, without further ado, let’s get back on track!
Chances are you remember Katie and Eric from their crazy-beautiful engagement session at their own farm a few weeks ago. Well, they got married at the beginning of November, and it was SO BEAUTIFUL! These two got married at Schwinn Produce Farm. Believe it or not, they were able to have an outdoor ceremony in November! We are absolutely in love with SO many images from their day! It was so hard to narrow it down to one to share!
You’ll hear the full story soon, but just know that this image was taken during the hayride pitstop, just as sunset happened. 🙂 Family and friends – we’re sure you’re super excited to see more. Feel free to pre-register to see their entire gallery as soon as it’s released – yay!

Friends. Last week, we got to do something super-crazy, ridiculous fun. And it involved an absolute dream team of some of Kansas City’s very best and talented wedding vendors. You may have seen photos of a gorgeous bride and a huge Great Dane floating around Facebook and Instagram. Well – just let me say, that we were so very excited that we got asked to be part of that styled shoot!! If you’re thinking, that girl and her dog are crazy gorgeous you are so totally correct. Pair Lauren and Lincoln with the extraordinary talents, gowns, florals, planners, of Kansas City’s best, and we had a heck of an afternoon. And it was a completely and utterly humbling experience.
We are so, so, SO excited to release all of the images from the styled shoot, and can’t wait to tell you ALL about it. If you know Kyle, you know that he gets carried away when he’s having a blast shooting, and this was no exception. So, while he’s working his way through ALL the images, we had to let a few sneak peeks out. You know, just because we absolutely can’t help ourselves. And we promise you this – there are SO MANY MORE gorgeous images from this styled shoot. Just wait until you see Megan Julian’s tablescapes. And the absolutely delicious paper (you know I’m a paper snob!) and place settings from Sugarbean Paper Co. And all of the other crazy, crazy beautiful pieces and parts – so many to choose from! Plus – we got a super early sneak peek of one of Kansas City’s oldest venues that is getting a facelift! And all of this? Just to celebrate Shining Stars Catering’s October Tasting 🙂
But, for now, here are a few of our very, very favorites. Enjoy! And check back soon for more! And to this amazing vendor team – thank you so much for letting us come and “play!”

You may remember Alyssa and Justin from their beautiful, emotional wedding ceremony earlier this year. Well, they are back! And we are so excited to share their big celebration and vow renewal with you now! These two Sporting KC sweethearts had their vow renewal in their church, followed by a fun-filled reception at Children’s Mercy Park. And, they’ve shared some of their best wedding planning advice with us!
Getting Ready | Children’s Mercy Park
What do you wish you knew before you started planning?
Justin: There are a lot of details. It can get expensive. Try to make those decisions together.
Alyssa: It will all be okay in the end. If a song is missed or you forget the flowers at home, or your groom gets dehydrated and the ceremony doesn’t start on time, everything will be okay. And, chances are, your guests won’t know that anything is differing from the schedule you set out.
Best Advice for a bride?
Alyssa: Make sure those that are helping you get ready know how to get you into (and out of) your dress. If you have a corset back, take time for them to learn how to properly tie the dress so it stays up while you’re dancing all night. If you have a train, ensure they know how to bustle it. You want to be comfortable while simultaneously looking your best.
Best advice for a groom?
Justin: Have a plan, stay fed and hydrated, and let your party do things for you. You’ll be stressed enough about the ceremony (and other things if you expect family drama), at least until it’s over.
First Look & Wedding Party Pictures | Children’s Mercy Park
What were your favorite moments from your wedding day?
Justin: Seeing her for the first time. Walking in to the reception and seeing everyone’s smiling faces, knowing they’re there for you and are happy for you.
Alyssa: Since we had two celebrations, there are two favorite moments. In January, when we said our vows, my favorite moment was the emotion of my groom. We decided against a first look, but took the time to pray together before I walked down the aisle. I could hear his voice breaking as he tearred up and prayed for our future. I still get butterflies and weepy eyed thinking about it. When I saw his tears as I walked down the aisle, the weight of the emotions of the day hit me – but the love that surrounded us gave me an unspeakable strength. The balance of what it means to be in partnership with one another was immediate in that moment and something I will always carry with me.
Similarly, in September, when we renewed our vows, my favorite moment was walking down the aisle of the church. I wish I could go back in time and take that walk again and again. Seeing the faces of so many family and friends who had traveled from near and far to pray with and for us and surround us with their love moved me to unexpected tears. I could feel the presence of those we had lost around me giving me strength, and the smiles of those present gave me hope for many joyous memories in the future.
Vow Renewal Ceremony
Any words of wisdom for those still planning?
- Don’t procrastinate. Make a schedule (or use a planning tool like The Knot) and STICK TO IT. You don’t want to feel pressured to get everything done at the last minute.
- If you do procrastinate (or if things don’t go according to schedule because life happens), don’t be afraid to relinquish control and ask for help. This is coming from a control freak who didn’t follow this advice and missed out on fun social activities because of it.
- Your friends are more talented than you think. If they offer to write your escort cards, LET THEM. (That list could go on for ages… the point is, let your friends help make your special day UNIQUELY YOU).
- Pinterest is great for inspiration, but let your wedding be YOURS. (I would have never imagined having table numbers based on Sporting KC players, but when we chose our venue, the idea came to me and I ran with it.)
- Take time to be with your guests outside of your wedding throughout your wedding weekend. We did this at the advice of the bride’s parents from out of town, and we are so glad we did. We had guests fly in from halfway across the country and if all we had been able to do was dance to a song together at the reception, it would have been a bummer.
- Be organized and communicate with everyone. Between yourselves, designate a point person for communication leading up to the big day and designate someone else to be in charge the day of. Wires will get crossed, but if everyone knows who to go to for information, that is immensely helpful. (With one person in charge, you know you haven’t forgotten to tell your future mother-in-law what time rehearsal is.)
- Have a FLEXIBLE game plan for the big day. Allow plenty of time for life to happen. Sometimes you take longer than planned to get into your dress. Sometimes the groom gets dehydrated before the vows. Build in time and you won’t be stressed out if something goes awry.
- STAY HUYDRATED ON THE BIG DAY. Especially if it’s hot out. Make sure you have a protein-rich breakfast/snacks while you’re getting ready and drink plenty of water. (This may have something to do with point 7.)
- HAVE FUN This is an insanely busy time in your lives, but know that every ounce of stress will be lifted off your shoulders the day after ‘I do’ and you’ll immediately want to do it all over again for the good times with family and friends by your side.
Bride & Groom Portraits | Children’s Mercy Park
Our two favorite splurges were our venue and our photographers. Because we met at Children’s Mercy Park, fell in love while attending Sporting KC matches at Children’s Mercy Park, and got engaged at one of those matches at Children’s Mercy Park, it only made sense to us to celebrate our love at Children’s Mercy Park. Because of our unique situation, we also had the privilege of saying our vows there, so it was a complete joy to share our reception with everyone from out of town at a place that means so much to us.
And, while there are PLENTY of photographers in Kansas City, there’s only one Rivas Photography. You’ve not only cemented your place in our lives as friends, you’ve stood by our sides on incredibly emotional days – crying and laughing with us – and made some of the most beautiful images to capture those moments.
Reception | The Shield Club at Children’s Mercy Park
Anything else you would like to share with us/planning brides and grooms?
Justin: Having the right people (especially photographers) hired to do the wedding makes a world of difference. We were blessed that the bride’s parents could afford who we chose. I would say splurge on Rivas Photography (second to the dress) and cut corners everywhere else. Songs change, video formats change, memories fade and people pass, but photos last the longest. Trust them. They will knock your socks off.
Alyssa: Working with Rivas Photography has been one of the best parts of this past year. From planning sessions to the day of (to the years of friendship ahead!), we are SO IMMENSLY PLEASED that our paths crossed.
What’s next for you two?
We are ready to get back to a new normal. I say a new normal because we have lost so many loved ones this past year that, in our planning, we never really had a time to slow down enough to see what life is like without them – we just had to press on. We will be reflecting on memories with our loved ones who have left us and creating new memories with those that surround us. We have been “Dave Ramsey”-ing with our money to become debt free and save for our future together. We are hoping that we can take a belated honeymoon someday and make a down payment on a house. We look forward to whatever God has in store for us, knowing that if we can make it through the challenges we’ve already faced, we can truly do all things through Him who strengthens us.
CONGRATULATIONS Alyssa and Justin!! We can’t even begin to tell you how incredibly happy we are for you! We’re so happy that you two have come into our lives, and are SO excited to see where life takes you next!

Okay, friends, “Sneak Peek Friday” is continuing! Stephanie and Aaron got married last weekend, and, boy, did they have one heck of a wedding day! In a completely good way, of course! We’ll share all the details as soon as these two lovebirds get to see ALL of their wedding images, but in the meantime, let us just set the scene for you.
Aaron and his groomsmen got ready in the same place where he and Stephanie had their first date. Stephanie might have been the coolest, most calm, laid-back bride we’ve ever worked with. (Insert us breaking a camera lens here. We’ll share more with you later about why that wasn’t such an awful thing.) They had a crazy, beautiful, family and friend filled wedding ceremony. Then, we got to make their wedding portraits at one of our very favorite locations in the city. They got photobombed by a man on a speeding moped. And then, had to literally race back to their party bus as the big, crazy storm hit.
Finally, just after their reception entrance, the rain stopped and they were able to enjoy sunset on the roof of The Garment House. And, we got to create some of our very, very favorite images with them. Not to stop the night there, they had a banging reception, and celebrated the night away with their friends and family. What a day! We are SO excited to share more images from their wedding day (you know they have to see them first!)! But, in the meantime, enjoy this peek from our portrait session on the roof!

Hold on to your horses – literally! We are SO, SO, SO excited to finally get to share a sneak peek with you from Jamie and Paul’s wedding! We’ve known all along that their wedding day was going to be unlike any other that we’ve shot. Why? Well, a carriage drawn by Clydesdales was going to drop Jamie off at the aisle! Believe us – this was SO cool. And our favorite part of their wedding day? I mean, besides the fact that they got to tie the knot? These two stuck to their guns when it came to knowing what they wanted for their wedding day. Jessica and her amazing team from Hitched helped Jamie and Paul execute their vision to a T. And it was so perfect for them.
We can’t wait to share so many more from this beautiful, fall wedding! But, in the meantime, enjoy this sneak peek!
